ACT UP NY Out of Darkness Candlelight Vigil at the NYC AIDS Memorial

New York, NY - ACT UP NY sponsored the annual Out of Darkness Candlelight Vigil at the NYC AIDS Memorial on December 1, 2017; to remember those lost on World AIDS Day. The vigil was followed by a march to St. Johns Church at 81 Christopher Street.

Participants carried candles and walked down the West Village to St. Johns Church at 81 Christopher Street, where a service of remembrance of hope was held. Names were read and candles were raised during the service to remember the people who have lost their lives to AIDS.

World AIDS Day is an international event that focuses attention on the fight against HIV. It is estimated that 34 million people around the world have AIDS and more than 35 million have died from the disease.
