#GetOrganizedBK rally and DIE-IN at Brooklyn Borough Hall in defense of the Affordable Care Act

BROOKLYN, NY - The Activist group #GetOrganizedBK held a rally and DIE-IN on March 11, 2017 at the Brooklyn Borough Hall steps and plaza in defense of the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare after the GOP released their bill to gut the ACA, putting many Americans at serious health risks if the ACA is repealed or replaced with their plan. Patients and healthcare workers shared personal stories of the impact of the ACA. New York Elected Officials such as New York City Council Member Brad Lander, Borough President of Brooklyn Eric Adams and Congresswoman Nydia M. Velázquez expressed their support and joined the DIE-IN.

A trumpet player played "Taps" at the time members of #GetOrganizedBK, New York Elected Officials and concerned citizens took part on the DIE-IN at the Brooklyn Borough Hall plaza, laying on the ground and holding tombstones over their heads. The tombstones used in the DIE-IN convey human impact through such messages as, “Couldn’t afford 30% surcharge. RIP.” “Died from a Medicaid roll-back.” “RIP, tax benefit didn’t help me.” “RIP. Empty health savings account.” “Died from lack of health insurance.” “Killed by a preventable disease.” "Died. GOP plan helped the rich, not me."
