With Exxon CEO at Stock Exchange, New Yorkers Urge Cuomo to Institute Corporate Polluter Fee And Hold Exxon Accountable

New York, NY - New Yorkers held a rally outside the New York Stock Exchange on March 7, 2018; as Exxon CEO Darren Woods speaks at the corporation’s “Global Analyst Meeting” at the New York Stock Exchange. This comes weeks after Exxon released a report claiming climate change will have “little risk” on its core business model of fossil fuel extraction.

With Rex Tillerson now Trump’s Secretary of State, our cities and states must stand up to assaults from the fossil-fueled White House. In January, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, Public Advocate Tish James, and Comptroller Scott Stringer announced full divestment of the City’s $191 billion pension funds from oil and gas corporations, as well as lawsuits against 5 major fossil fuel companies including ExxonMobil.

New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman is currently investigating all that #ExxonKnew, and has come out in favor of a climate polluter fee. While Governor Cuomo has stated his support for divestment, it’s time he go beyond lip service toward making New York a true climate leader.

Shining a spotlight on Governor Andrew Cuomo, groups are demanding he:
(1) An immediate halt to all new fracking infrastructure projects, such as pipelines and gas plants;
(2) A commitment to 100% renewable energy for all; and
(3) Institute a polluter fee to make corporations like Exxon pay.

Gov. Cuomo must stand up fossil fuel corporations and executives, rather than allow the destruction of our communities and our climate.
