Indigenous Leaders from the Ramapough Lenape Nation and Environmental Activists join international call on German bank to divest from Dakota Access Pipeline companies
New York City - On February 17, 2017; Indigenous leaders from the Ramapough Lenape Nation and American Indian Law Alliance will join environmental activists from Food & Water Watch and 350NYC on Friday, February 17th, at 11 am outside the New York headquarters of Germany-based BayernLB bank at 560 Lexington Avenue (at East 51st Street) in Manhattan calling on the Bavarian bank to divest from its $120 million investment in companies building the Dakota Access Pipeline across treaty-protected land of the Standing Rock Sioux in North Dakota.
Leaders from the Ramapough Lenape Nation will hold a prayer ceremony outside the bank in solidarity with the water protectors at Standing Rock. A delegation will also deliver a letter to bank executives in support of a group of German activists pressuring the bank, which is 94 percent owned by the Bavarian government, the Bank Board Chair is major supporter of UN sustainability goals and Paris climate accord; activists demand to back up that commitment with divestment
A simultaneous action is planned at BayernLB Headquarters in Germany.
